Below you will find 10 of the hundreds of reasons one should stop smoking. Read through them all, and see how your life as a smoker would be different if you would quit smoking and start living a healthier life.

1. Bad Odor

Smoking carries with it a very unique odor, that will follow you everywhere. It saturates your clothes, hair, car, home and your breath. You reek of it all day long. No amount of mints or gum are going to get rid of that bad breath, let alone the amount of air freshener it takes to get your house and car back to smelling normal.

2. Lots more Wrinkles

You can always pick a smoker out of a crowd. Aside from the odor that is following them, they have more than 10 times the amount of wrinkles as a non-smoker. Not to mention the greyish pale skin, and yellow teeth and fingers.

3. Your Lungs fill with Toxic Substances

Okay maybe not quite toxic, but they do fill with phlegm, mucus and tar. As you lungs fill with these substances it reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrients between the tissues and bloodstream. Smokers also have alot harder time breathing. Stop smoking and within 12 hours your lungs begin the healing process.

4. Are you Depressed?

Smokers are twice as likely to become depressed than non-smokers. So if you find yourself down in the dumps or always looking at the world negatively it could be from your daily nicotine intake.

5. Pricey

Have you ever stopped and figured up how much money you spend a week or a month on cigarettes. You might as well roll up six dollar bills, light em and let em burn everyday. Thats almost $2,000 every year, even more if you are paying seven to nine dollars for every pack of cigarettes. What if you smoked your entire life from age 18 til you die at age 65? Figure that up, at six dollars a pack, and one pack a day that is over $85,000, you just burnt a car or a house in some markets.

6. Want to have children?

When you smoke you lower the ability have children. If you a woman it makes it more and more difficult to become pregnant, and if you are a man it makes you infertile, and harder to get a woman pregnant. Not to mention the possibility of having erectile dysfunctions.

7. Problem Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, be prepared to have some difficulties with your pregnancy. Women who smoke during pregnancy are more likely to experience ectopic pregnancies, where the fertilized egg begins to develop in the slender fallopian tube instead of the uterus. Because of your smoking, your baby may have a lower birth weight and birth defects too. You are also more likely to deliver prematurely or miscarry.

8. Bad Role Model

If you have children then you’ll know what I mean. Children like to imitate their parents. So if mommy or daddy smoke, that makes it cool or ok to do. So be a good role model and stop smoking, if not for you, then for your children or the children you are around.

9. Second Hand Smoke

Not only is it a bad influence to smoke around others, but it kills them too. By the time you child is 5 years old they will have inhaled the equivalence of 102 packs of cigarettes. Children and adults who are exposed to second-hand smoke are at a higher risk of developing lung cancer and other respiratory problems, including shortness of breath, coughing and more phlegm.

10. Smokers Die Young

Smokers die a lot younger than non-smokers, studies have shown that one cigarette will take 7 minutes off your life. Not to mention the higher risk of heart attacks, respiratory problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and lung disease.

Quit Smoking Tips

Author: admin

One of the hardest things any of us have ever had to do, is overcome an addiction. When you are addicted to anything you feel almost helpless at even the thought of quitting your habit. There is however help out there, that can definitly help you overcome the addiction, and kick the habit. I am referring to cigarettes, but this can be any addiction. Below you will find some quit smoking tips.

One great thing to do is get in a group of people that are all attempting to achieve the same goal. For example we have narcotics anonymous or alcoholics anonymous. In our case, I don’t know of any actual groups that get together to assist us with quitting smoking, but you can always create your own group of people to gather quit smoking tips and suggestions. One thing I do not recommend is relying on pills, patches, injections and things like that. They are very costly, and you may not be able to quit by using those products.

Another quit smoking tip is to start a hobby, i.e. scrap booking, or photography. Hobbies make a great alternative to smoking, when you get a craving just take a picture, or scrap book a page or two. Another great “hobby” is exercise, not only is it a great hobby, but it will also benefit your health as well. A lot of us tend to eat more when we are quitting this habit, so the exercise will counter act that as well.

Quitting smoking doesn’t have to be this awful time in your life, where you seem to be grumpy, agitated and “testy” all the time. If you are willing to accept help, then it is there. Another great quit smoking tip is too eat healthy snacks. When you get a craving for a cigarette grab a banana, or chex mix, something to that effect.

You can overcome this addiction without spending the hundreds or thousands of dollars some places want you to spend to kick the habit. Just read up on it, check out some other articles, and research the side effects smoking has on your body, and how quickly your body starts repairing itself after you quit smoking. In fact, your heart rate drops about twenty minutes after your last cigarette. About half a day later, the carbon monoxide level in your blood would return to normal. Your sense of smell returns to normal within 3 months, and your blood pressure will start to return to normal.

These are only a few of the benefits of quitting smoking. Please keep in mind that this will not be easy, and you may fail a time or two, but the important thing to do is to keep it up, keep coming back and trying again. Once you have a game plan down you will definitely be able to quit. Thanks for reading and good luck.
